A customized version of a 48×20" optical turnstile (predecessor to the 60×20" unit) is finished in solid wood and wood veneer. Units are operated in barrier free mode on the right, while the low sliding door style barriers normally remain closed near the reception desk to gently steer traffic away. Note the external card readers mounted on the sloped Corian end caps; these serve as a strong visual cue, so employees always know where to present their cards.
The sloped end caps of the 60×20" turnstile are available in many configurations to suit different identification devices. Here, an XTec combination PIN pad/smart card reader/finger scanner is installed. A two-line LCD text display instructs the user. Successful entry requires the ultimate in verification: something you know, something you have, and something you are. Users can enter a duress code on the keypad to alert security staff nearby if their entry is being coerced.
